“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
– Sir Arthur C. Clarke
In the past, identifying patterns in complex arrhythmias was less than magical, particularly when using traditional ablation technologies. These patterns called rotors are organized, rotational waves that drive surrounding, disorganized activation or fibrillation. Just like the eye of a hurricane, rotors have an organized core that powers the surrounding chaos. Using Focal Impulse Rotor Mapping or FIRM-guided therapy, Abbott Electrophysiology offers a new method to identify the eye of the fibrillation storm, so physicians can not only see the chaotic patterns, but pinpoint the source of the arrhythmia. This cutting-edge technology is the Topera Rotor Mapping Solution.
The Topera Rotor Mapping Solution includes the RhythmView® Workstation and FIRMap® catheter. When used in combination, these components identify the rotors or sustaining mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation (Afib), atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia, and ventricular tachycardia. Because arrhythmias develop as a result of both electrical and anatomic abnormalities, every patient needs to be individually diagnosed and treated. The system offers a patient-specific solution that enables physicians, for the very first time, to identify the unique sources that sustain serious heart rhythm disorders. Physicians can then determine if these are appropriate for treatment such as ablation.
It’s advanced technology…not magic.
